In the last few years, women’s football has finally started to find its rightful place in the sport’s limelight. In the summer of 2022, Rotherham Museums, Arts & Heritage organisation wanted to celebrate women’s football in Rotherham and Doncaster and commissioned Neck of the Wood to put together an exhibition. Alastair teamed up with the National Football Museum in Manchester, delving into their archives for inspiration. He then toured a pilot exhibit with a dynamic program of 'Make Your Mark' events, inviting communities to actively shape the exhibition. The result was ‘Grass Roots To Glory - Our Story So Far,’ a jubilant celebration of the game's inclusivity held at Clifton Park Museum. Alastair curated an immersive display in the style of a football club's locker room, trophy cabinet, fan zone, and kit rooms which chronicled the local and national history of women's football. Alastair also teamed up with Beccy Dye, a storyteller and game-maker, and devised activities including a fridge magnet poetry headline-switching game, whiteboard murals, 'slogan' badge design, and tee shirt printing. It was a great result that was fun to put together. And who knows, it might have even inspired the next Millie Bright or Vicky Exley.
